stepping up OUR game

As we come to the home field again tomorrow to play Schriner, we enter into the weekend with a plan of two big wins! Both these teams are crucial wins for us and we plan to bring everything we've been working on this week in practice from crossing, finishing crosses, zones, working from the middle to the outside, and playing quick and leaving everything out on the field after 90 minutes.

We head into this weekend with a 2-1 record in conference. After losing to UMHB 3-0 we had a bitter taste in our mouth and knew that we didn't play to our potential. Taking that feeling of defeat and not playing our game, we went into the Howard Payne game never wanting to feel that way again, and made sure of it with a late goal by Boo Davis assisted by Danica Saxon to come out with a 1-0 win over UHP. Now coming off a win, we aren't getting over confident but instead remembering that taste of defeat and using it as fuel to give us all as one the want to win and the fight to play hard.

Both these teams are going to be tough games, but we are going into these games ready to play and ready to set the tone. We've trained hard all week and when the whistle blows we'll be out there ready to work and put it all together to find the back of the net this Friday and Saturday. Come support us at 1 o'clock on both days and get some free food on Saturday at 12 at our tailgate!! Hope to see everyone out there! Let's take this weekend girls and show Schriner and TLU that we're here to win.

Mud Fest!

The year of rain has continued! The past two weeks has been filled with rain, rain and more rain! The opening weekend this past weekend was a little challenging with our field basically being turned into a lake, but when it came time to play we didn't let that slow us down. Instead we adapted to the field conditions, played our best, and ended up coming out with 1-0 record in conference for the weekend. Although we were able to play on Friday and lock a 7-0 shutout win over McMurry, Saturday was another story; after us playing the field was completely tore up and the officials cancelled our game on Saturday against Hardin Simmons. It wasn't what we wanted but there wasn't much that we could do about it due to weather conditions and safety issues. Therefore the game goes on neither teams record and we both just go on competing for top spot in the conference. Although the game was cancelled, we still enjoyed some barbecue thanks to our parents and supporters who tailgated for us this weekend and will be continuing to do so at most of our home games!

After our big win this weekend we were all excited, but we have kept a level head knowing that this weekend coming up as we travel to UMHB and UHP that these two games are very crucial and tough games for us. Both these teams were picked to come out right above us in conference standings this year and therefore it is very crucial that we win these games so we can get ahead. In practice this week we have been working so hard on one and two-touch quick play and changing our point of attack so that we can pass around these teams and get better at working together and not being so predictable. Its been tough to work hard with weather conditions but it hasn't slowed us down at all, but instead motivated us to work even hard and control our touch more. Coming out of this hard week of practice we can't wait to get out on the field and surprise these two teams with how much we improve each week. Get ready ladies we have a tough weekend ahead of us and we have our work cut out for us in conference!

Let the Games Begin!

Back and settled in from a long weekend of rain, mud, and unfortunately two losses. We took the long trip to Abilene to play at Hardin Simmons, who hosted the tournament this year. Ready to get our revenge on Austin College and Rhodes from beating us last year, we set up in a defensive 4-4-2 for both games playing Rhodes first Friday afternoon. We came out pretty aggressive but got behind late in the first half coming out 1-0 to start the second. Boo Davis scored a goal to tie it on a breakaway with just her and the Rhodes keeper scoring our only goal of the weekend and to bring us back into the game. Although we played hard we kept letting the girls on the Rhodes team turn and have open looks at the goal until late in the second half they scored their final goal to beat us with a 2-1 win. We couldn't get everything straightened out in time for Saturday's morning game and although we battled and played hard it just wasn't enough and we settled for a 2-0 loss to Austin College.

Although we have been working hard we just haven't been playing to our potential and have been settling for less than our best, but this week with preseason over we are working even harder this week to prepare for our conference opening weekend against McMurry this Friday at 2 and Hardin Simmons at 2 on Saturday. We are realizing where our mistakes have been made and now are doing our best to get all the kinks and jitters worked out so we can start playing to our full potential. We have all the players this year we need to do work this season, so now its all about putting it into action! Let's work hard this week girls and show these conference teams that we mean business this year!

Packing up and heading out!

Now that classes are in full swing everything is getting very busy. We are finally on a normal practice routine and a regular schedule, but things are just going to get busier from here.

After our 3-0 win over UD, we packed up and headed to Mississippi. Our first game was a little rough, after the four hour bus ride and waiting around till 3 to play we were slow to the ball and couldn't clean up our first touch. After playing the first half and a minute of the second though lightening struck and once again bad weather delayed the game. After a brief wait though the storm had settled in and the game got cancelled; leaving the game's outcome unknown and off both teams record. The next day though we got rested up from the Bellhaven game and were back on the field again to play Millsaps on Sunday. We were a completely different team compared to the previous day. We really got in and battled in this game and held them 0-0 till half. When coming out in the second half though they made an early goal to which we could not answer. We played hard and worked the entire 90 minutes, but fell to a 1-0 loss.

After getting back Sunday, we dove right back into class again yesterday and get back to practice today. We'll take this weekend with a grain of salt and get after it hard at practice this week. We had a rough weekend but we'll learn from our mistakes and just look forward to this weekends games in Abilene! We hit the road again to play Rhodes and Austin College so get ready girls cause season is in full swing with our last games before our conference opener quickly approaching!

practice, games, and now this thing called class??

This last week has flew by!!! We have been so busy with trying to get people healthy and back on the field, practicing and now playing!! We finally had our first two scrimmage games. The first was a win against Lon Morris. We had two returners get the scoring started by each earning a goal, and then had a freshman forward crash the goal earning two goals to make the game a 4-2 win. The second scrimmage didn't go as smoothly for us, we came out a little sluggish and with the Cedar Valley girls coming out a more physical than our last game it took us awhile to adjust and get going. Once we found a rhythm things went a little better but we just couldn't find the back of the net, resulting in a scoreless tie.

Now having two games under belt, the team seems to beginning to mesh on the field better. We are starting to become a little more comfortable with the positions coach is playing us in, and starting to connect better on the field. All of us our really excited with how things are going and can't wait to get out on the field again as well as continue working hard to get better.

Although everyone will be getting busy now that CLASS is starting don't forget that our next game is this Tuesday September 1st, so come support your lady tigers against the University of Dallas at 7:00! See everyone there!

Becoming One

Everything has been crazy lately! We are so busy with training, playing, team meals, game nights, and of course a little something called fun night.

With practice becoming more intense each time, we've been working on 1 v. 1 and 2 v. 2 stuff to help shape our offense and defense, taking small side drills and applying them to game situations going to goal, and of course putting all these things into action by scrimmaging each other. We've been putting in a hundred percent at every practice and each is getting better and better. No one is ready to settle for just good or ok, so things are picking up and starting to come together more and more with each practice!

Although we've been working hard, when it comes to becoming close as a team and getting to know each other it can't be all work and no play! So we've also been having some fun hanging out and getting to know each other. We had a bit of team bonding by having a team lunch in one of the captain's room and playing some games.. maybe the biggest and most hilarious game of catch phrase I've probably ever played. We came together and had a bible study, and we also let the returners have a little fun getting to know each of the new girls personally with a make over, a bad hair do, and a little running around all over campus for some goofy activities. Everyone is really getting close both off and on the field! Now its all about getting back to work, giving it our all in practice and counting down the days to the first game! Get ready ladies!

Diving Into Things

We reported, had a ton of meetings, met the girls, got our stuff situated and met our roomies and now we're already getting down to business.

The meetings went good and everyone seems to be really excited, we have 18 new girls which is exactly what we needed to meet our goal of getting some depth this year! I am so excited we're finally back after everyone working hard over the summer. After last season of letting the playoffs slip away by one game, all the returners have a bitter taste in their mouth and aren't wasting anytime at getting after it and working hard to achieve the goal of reaching the playoffs this year but we aren't the only ones working hard; all the new girls have come in ready to compete and play just as hard as we are! Everyone is getting down to business and letting each other know that this season is going to be a challenging and competitive not only at games but at practice as well.

The first practices have seemed to run smoothly. Everyone seems a little nervous, but it all seems to be helping us compete together. This season is already getting off to a better start it seems with everyone getting along and getting to know each other, but also allowing us to have more competition to help us work harder and get better! The final practice of the first day of THREE-A-DAYS should be interesting in allowing us all to get some playing time with each other. This season should be very interesting as well as exciting for all of us!
